Schoooooool’s OUT. FOR. EVER.
Well, more like a couple months. (Sorry, I couldn't help the Alice Cooper reference.)
Summer may not have officially started, but most students are starting their summer breaks by week’s end. That means the kids are hanging around the house more often and looking for things to do to keep from being bored. Are you looking to keep your kid(s) from spending too much time on their phone or tablet? Want something fun (and maybe a little educational) to do with them this summer? You’re in luck! There’s plenty going on in San Antonio.
Here are 5 fun activities to check out with the kiddos this summer!
Beginning June 4, The DoSeum will be hosting Mathletics, a fun and educational exhibit designed to keep kids’ minds sharp during the summer through a variety of math concepts. What’s more, kids can participate in the Mathletics Summer Challenge, which challenges kids mentally and physically and to explore their home, neighborhood, and throughout town. Kids who complete a category will earn a medal, and those who complete all five categories (thus earning all five medals) will be invited to participate in the Summer Do’Lympics on August 13 and may win a birthday party at The DoSeum. Don't miss out! Visit the museum's Programs and Events page for more details.
Join Kiddie Park on Friday, June 3, for its inaugural Summer Kick-off Party, where kids can enjoy unlimited rides for only $8! There will also be carnival games, face paintings, and more! Oh, and not to mention, specials at the snack bar. Oh YES! Join the fun from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. RSVP on Facebook.
San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA)
SAMA regularly hosts a variety of activities with children in mind. Every month SAMA hosts a First Sundays for Families series with a different theme each month. For June, the theme is More Than Meets the Eye, a multisensory experience that “encourages integration of the senses into gallery exploration and art-making.” SAMA also hosts a Playdates series every Wednesday that aims to cultivate creativity and appreciation for the arts. Playdate themes for June include Milagros, Wings, All Along the Nile, and America the Beautiful. Visit the museum's Events page for a complete listing of events and other activities.
The Magik Theatre
Head over to Hemisfair Park and enjoy great local productions at The Magik Theatre! Charlotte’s Web (running through June 11), La Cinderella (July 2 – August 7), Treasure Island (August 20 – September 17), and The Magicians Agency are just some of the fun shows you can enjoy this summer. Check out this promo for The Magicians Agency (premiering June 18) for a preview of what you can expect at The Magik Theatre. Visit the theatre's Events page for details on shows, showtimes, and to purchase tickets.
The Witte Museum
For a trip back in time, check out the Witte Museum’s Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibit, a look at the Mayan civilization, culture, and way of life through artifacts, interactive displays, hands-on activities, and more! The exhibit makes its Texas premiere at the Witte Museum and runs through September 5, 2016. Visit the museum's About the Exhibit page for more details on the exhibit and to purchase tickets.
