We lost another great musical legend today, and this one hits close to home. As reported by dozens of media outlets, including MySA, Tejano music icon and San Antonio native Emilio Navaira passed away on Monday at the age of 53. Emilio's death is believed to have been from natural causes, but an autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of his death.
We’re deeply saddened by the news, as Emilio was undoubtedly one of the greatest Tejano musicians of all time. Emilio, like Selena, helped put Tejano music on the mainstream map in the 1990s with a slew of musical hits, including Como Le Hare, Pienso En Ti, Donde Andará, Sensaciones, and La Rama Del Mesquite, among many others.
I remember as a kid, and still to this day, you couldn’t go anywhere ― wedding, quinceañera, fiesta, or backyard shindig ― without hearing Navaira’s music. For me, and I’m sure for many others, Navaira’s music will always instill a sense of nostalgia and good times. His music was loved by many, and he will truly be missed.
Rest in peace to the king of Tejano. May Emilio's music continue to thrive and transcend generations to come.
